JERUSALEM (AA) - Several Israeli soldiers were injured in the occupied West Bank’s Jordan Valley region on Wednesday when their vehicle struck a landmine, according to the Israeli army.

In a statement, the army said that the soldiers had been on a “routine mission” to repair a fence that hems in a minefield located in the border area.

During the mission, their vehicle struck a landmine, injuring a number of soldiers, the army said, without providing the exact number of soldiers injured.

The injured soldiers are now receiving medical treatment, the statement explained, adding that an investigation had since been opened into the incident.

Israel’s Channel 2 television station, for its part, put the number of wounded soldiers at seven, describing their injuries as “light”.
