– The Search and Rescue Association (AKUT) has held an event under the Project of “Throughout the fault line 1,500 km by bicycle” having departed from northeastern Kars province arrived to northwestern province of Izmit/Kocaeli. Five cyclists, having pedalled to raise awareness as Turkey marks the 16th anniversary of August 17 quake, were welcomed at the city’s entry point by AKUT.
The project’s team leader Hakan Korkut told reporters that they had also held seminars and handed out flyers and posters on their route. The group included 53-year-old teacher Derya Keçeçi, who called on the society to become self-aware on earthquakes.
Having announced that the group will be pedalling for 1,500 km on the parkour, one of the cyclists Mehmet Murat added that after 11 stages, the AKUT team will conclude their journey in northwestern Yalova province.
