- Eight people were killed and one went missing due to floods and landslides in Turkey's Black Sea province of Artvin on Aug. 23, the governor has announced.

On the night of Aug. 24, heavy rain paralysed life in Artvin and its districts of Arhavi, Hopa and Borça. The main road linking the three districts was also blocked to traffic due to floods, and many vehicles were left under water.

Helicopters were dispatched for the search and rescue mission. Artvin Governor Kemal Cirit said casualties occurred across the northeastern province as a result of the floods that followed heavy rain, adding that damage assessment works were underway. Death toll now stands at eight while a child remains missing.
