Made A Difference With Isparta Rose, Opened Up To The World

- In Isparta, the ‘City of Roses’ in south-western Turkey, a company producing rose since 1965 launched the first bottled rosewater that is non-decomposed of rose oil.

Exported 150,000 bottles of rosewater to countries such as China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan and US in 2014, the company set its target as 600,000 bottles to be exported in 2016.

Gülşah Gürkan, the third-generation representative of the Gürkan Company, promoted ‘Gülsha’, an innovative brand breaking the old taboos in the entrepreneurship of rose production in Turkey.

Launched in 2012 in Antalya, the globalized ‘Gülsha’ brand transfers rosewater to glass bottles from plastic bottles, which cause changes in the product’s essentials, and the brand aims at protecting the product from harmful solar rays by using coloured glass, according to Gülşah Gürkan.

Gürkan explains that the company has also created its own cosmetic series beside rose water and says, “Our first product was rosewater in glass bottle. I wanted to offer a better one than the products in the market recognized as rosewater. Thus we produced a rosewater distilled from fresh blossoms, maintaining the entire oil inside, packaged with coloured glass bottles. We are responsible of making sales and exporting the 95 percent of it. In Turkey the product is sold only in pharmacies.”

Emphasizing that rose oil is one of the most valuable oils, Gürkan explains, “It is a significant renovator of cells. When you use it as tonic, it is absorbed purely by your skin”.

Gülşah Gürkan, the Vice President of the Executive Board of Gürkan Company is pursuing her career in the business as member of KAGIDER (Women Entrepreneurs Association of Turkey) and GYİAD (Young Businessmen Association).
