- A large group of Syrian migrants having departed from Istanbul’s largest bus terminal in Bayrampaşa has passed through the Mahmutbey gates on TEM highway, in attempt to advance towards border Gates in western province of Edirne, seeking to flee to Europe.
Police teams have not intervene this time, after five days of marches, camping and protests of hundreds of migrants against the refusal of police and gendarmerie at the border gate. Migrants have also faced rejections of bus companies to sell them tickets to Edirne.
Having hit the roads around 02.00 a.m. to march to Edirne, the group has given a break to sleep by the highway, where they have placed their bags and luggages and tried to sleep through the night under blankets.
As the sun rose, early on Sep. 21, around 100 people hit the highway after a sleeping break of two hours.
Police teams resume tracking the group, including children among them, walking by the TEM highway shoulders.
Some of the migrants told they have been waiting at the bus terminal for days and the life conditions have been harsh to them in Turkey, explaining why they have headed to Europe, facing this dangerous journey.
Hundreds of mostly Syrian migrants that had been intervened for days by gendarmerie and police in Edirne in attempt to reach the Greek border, have accepted to abandon their protests at TEM roadside.
