– In Silopi district of southeastern province of Şırnak, an armed police car was attacked by a mine trap on the road. Şırnak Governorate announced that four police officers were killed while one was left wounded in the incident, targeted in their armed car after having entered the Başak neighbourhood.

In Silopi, four people including one police officer had been killed in the Başak and Barbaros neighbourhoods on August 7, when an armed clash erupted after alleged members of the youth wing of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), Patriotic Revolutionary Youth Movement (YDG-H), fought back with long-barrelled weapons at police, who had attempted to close trenches dug by the PKK to block the entrance of security officers.

Following the Aug 7 clashes in Silopi, on Aug 10, a mine trap on the road, set by the PKK, exploded and left four policemen wounded. The police officers couldn’t survive despite the medical interventions at Silopi State Hospital.

The governorate’s statement added that “a police helicopter has also been attacked in the course of deploying military officers to Şırnak center from Beytüşşebap district at 07.00 by separatist terror organization on the same day”.

Police teams launched an operation to find the suspects of the attack, killing 4 policemen. Locals report they keep hearing gunshots off and on at the neighbourhood.
