More Than 60 Percent Of Death Caused By Heart And Cancer

- More than 60 percent of death in Turkey caused by heart attacks or various cancer diseases, according to the Causes of Death Statistics data released by Turkstat on Monday.

As examined causes of death statistics, the ranking of top three disease groups in 2013 did not change in 2014. Total death cases were caused by diseases of the circulatory rose to 40.4 percent in 2014, up from 39.6 percent in 2013, while neoplasms with 21.2 percent in 2013 fell to 20.7 percent in 2014.

With developments in 2014, total death cases were caused by diseases of the circulatory and canver rose to 61.1 percent in 2014, up from 60.8 in the previous year.

Deaths caused by diseases of the circulatory system were 151 thousand 696, where 39.6 percent of deaths based on diseases of the circulatory system were caused by ischaemic heart diseases and cerebrovascular diseases with 24.7 percent in 2014.

The number of death cases caused by malignant neoplasms in the total was 74 thousand 906 in 2013 and it was determined as 75 thousand 993 in 2014. 31.1 percent of these deaths in 2014 were based on malignant neoplasms of larynx and trachea/bronchus/lung and 31.3 percent in 2013.

As the causes of death statistics were examined by age groups, it was found that diseases of the circulatory system were seen mostly in the 75-84 age group, benign and malignant neoplasms were seen mostly in the 65-74 age group in 2014.

The ratios of deaths caused by the diseases of the circulatory system were seen mostly in the following first five provinces: Denizli, Kırklareli, Yozgat, Samsun and Artvin, respectively.

The ratios of deaths caused by the diseases of benign and malignant neoplasms were detected mostly in the following first five provinces: Edirne, Kocaeli, İstanbul, İzmir and Ankara, respectively.
