- Dozens of people have been arrested as a part of an operation into the allegations of cheating at the Public Personnel Selection Examination (KPSS) conducted in 2010.
The police launched the operation in total 14 provinces, in an effort to detain a total of 82 suspects. They have detained 61 people in Ankara, 4 people in Istanbul and 2 people in Samsun, so far.
Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor Harun Kodalak told daily Hürriyet 10 suspects have fled Turkey, but he did not disclose further details about the on-going operation.
More than 800,000 candidates entered the 2010 KPSS exam hoping to become public servants. However, suspicions of cheating were raised after 350 candidates correctly answered all 120 questions in the education sciences section, which covers teaching candidates.
A probe has been launched into around 3,227 candidates who were suspected of having had access to the questions before the exam.
Following another cheating allegation in the general ability and general knowledge questions, the prosecutor’s office assigned 3,000 experts to examine all 807,000 people who entered the exam in order to determine those who marked the same answers.
