- The Regional Head of Turkey’s first ongoing nuclear plant project in Akkuyu, Faruk Uzel, announced his resignation, after four years on duty, while an anonymous source revealed an e-mail accusing Uzel with “corruption and harassment”.

Faruk Uzel had sent an SMS to representatives of press organizations and told the has resigned because he found “the operations and mentality of Russian company implementing the project were a risk for his country and nation” on Sep. 1.

“I support my country’s attempts to construct a nuclear power plant and to have this technology, however due to my take on the Russian company’s implementation and mentality, after I expressed my thoughts, I announced I have resigned of the Akkuyu project” said Uzel’s message.

Lawyer of Akkuyu nuclear plant company Kaan Keskin, on the other hand, stated that his client has no links with the statement of Uzel. Lawyer Keskin announced that they had filed a complaint against Faruk Uzel.

While Uzel strictly denied and slammed the accusations against him for sexual harassment and corruption, Uzel addressed the “flaws of the implementations of the company” and “security risks” after the engineers of the company allegedly isolated the underground water in rooms used as office one meter below the floor level, 12 meters under the sea level of Akkuyu.
