Retail Sales Volume Falls In The Second Consecutive Month

- Retail sales volume fell by 0.7 percent in February, after decreasing 0.3 percent in January, a leading indicator for the developments in the economic activity, according to the Retail Sales Volume Index data released by Turkstat on Tuesday.

In the same month, food, drinks and tobacco sales volume fell by 0.4 percent, non-food sales fell by 1.0 percent and automotive fuel sales fell by 0.6 percent.

Retail turnover with current prices rose by 0.2 percent in February on monthly basis, while food, drinks and tobacco sales rose by 1.3 percent, non-food sales remained stable and automotive fuel sales fell by 0.6 percent.

Retail sales volume in computers, books, telecommunications equipment fell by 3.0 percent, electronic goods and furniture sales fell by 1.6 percent, sales via mail orders and internet fell by 1.8 percent, while textiles, clothing and footwear sales rose by 0.1 percent, medical goods and cosmetic sales rose by 3.3 percent on monthly basis.

Calendar adjusted retail turnover with current prices increased by 4.2 percent in February 2015 compared with the same month of previous year. In the same month, food, drinks and tobacco sales increased by 15.4 percent, non-food sales increased by 4.5 percent and automotive fuel sales decreased by 10.0 percent, on annual basis.
