- The Saudi-led coalition launched new air raid struck over a wedding party in Yemen, where the bombing killed 131 people on Sep. 28, including women and children, according to Yemen News Agency SABA.
The bomb attack has targeted two tents of a wedding party in Wahijah village, near the Red Sea port city of Mokha. While dozens were left injured after the attack, a security official stressed the death toll was initial.
Rescue works of teams and ambulances have been carried out in the area, despite severe difficulties due to lack of fuel and possibilities.
The Saudi-led Arab coalition has been targeting the Iranian-allied Houthis, by air attacks in particular, across Yemen since March, seeking to stop the advance of Houthis in the region.
UN: More than half killed among civilians in Yemen
Regarding the escalating civilian death toll, the United Nations (UN) and international rights groups have declared alarm.
Accordingly, the UN has announced that at least 2,355 out of more than 4,500 people killed were civilians, recorded from the end of March to Sept. 24, in a statement released on Sep. 29.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has condemned the death toll following the wedding event and has warned that “any intentional attack on civilians violated international law and must have been investigated”.
