– Turkey Journalists Federation Chairman Yılmaz Karaca made a statement condemning the attack of protesters over Turkish daily Hürriyet on late Sep. 6.
Daily Hürriyet’s Istanbul headquarters was attacked by around 150 pro-government protesters following a deadly terrorist attack in Dağlıca district of Turkey’s southeastern Hakkari province.
While the statement of Karaca stressed doing journalism in Turkey has been gradually becoming more difficult, Karaca told:
“It turns out that the attack was organized and was planned by certain centers. Media in Turkey, in a way fettered in terms of freedom of press, is also under threats. This attack has showed where the hatred boosted against press, the ones that differ with their thoughts, could lead to. The attack is, in this regard, egregious and a great warning against others to make them ‘pull their socks up’.”
Having declared that “any sorts of tyranny was unacceptable”, the federation told that it would stand together with their colleagues in daily Hürriyet, and demanded the offenders to be caoptured and penalised.
