- With only weeks to go to the Nov. 1 snap election, political tension in Turkey has reached a new high as of Sept. 22, with two ministers from the country’s Kurdish problem-focused Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) resigning from their posts in a cabinet led by major partner of the interim government, the Justice and Development Party (AKP).

The HDP announced the resignations of European Union Minister Ali Haydar Konca and Development Minister Müslüm Doğan, both from the HDP and members of an interim cabinet steering the country to the snap parliamentary election, in a brief statement, noting that the two would hold a press conference at party headquarters. The HDP statement was released less than an hour after a cabinet meeting chaired by AKP leader and Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu earlier that day.
