– In Reyhanlı district of southeastern border town Hatay, the Turkey- Syria border line of 45 kilometres will be bonded with concrete walls within boosted security measures of the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK), against illegal transits and trafficking through the border, over the civil war and growing threat by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) striking Syria and the Middle East.
A one-kilometer-long wall, followed by another 2.5-kilometer-long wall, have already been constructed in the region in 2013 at Kuşaklı neighbourhood along the Reyhanlı border. Also, the concrete blocks have replaced the barbed wires.
In the district, within the ongoing bonding works, a 2.4-kilometers-long flexible and bullet-proof dannert block was installed, supported by sand bags. Until today, a total of twelve-kilometer-long wall has been put up in the region, at the 45-kilometer-long Syria border.
The constructions, having been maintained in three different zones, are expected to be completed in three years. The blocks wear a logo of Governorate of Hatay.
Across the Reyhanlı border lie the İdlib and Harim towns, including their bourgs, which have been under control of Free Syrian Army (FSA) and other parallel fractions with the FSA are in control of the area. The region is also home to migrants of Syrian origin having fled the civil war and sheltered in tent cities and refugee camps in the region.
The southeastern district had also faced the Reyhanli massacre in 2013 where more than 50 people were murdered and more than 140 were wounded in two simultaneous blasts, having caused tension regarding Syrian civil war.
