Turkey's Export Unit Values Fall Since August 2014

- Turkey's export unit values has been falling continuously since August 2014, while volume of exports rising over the same period, according to the Foreign Trade Indices data released by Turkstat on Friday.

The overall export unit value fell by 9.6 percent in April, while the overall export volume increased by 10.7 percent in the same month, which means, Turkish exporters have been selling goods at lower prices.

Value of Turkish exports started to fall in August 2014 by 0.8 percent, which went on falling in the following eight months increasingly and continuously, 1.8 percent in September, 2.5 percent in October, 3.1 percent in November, 4.7 percent in December, 7.0 percent in January, 7.5 percent in February, 9.0 percent in March and 9.6 percent in April.

Export values for food, beverages and tobacco rose by 5.2 percent, while values for crude materials, fuels and manufactured goods fell by 7.3 percent, 40.3 percent and 9.7 percent.

On the contrary, the overall export volumes rose in seven months of the nine months between August 2014 to April 2015. Export volumes rose by 3.7 percent, by 6.5 percent and by 10.0 percent in August, September and October respectively and fell by 4.6 pecent in November. The overall export volumes rose by 6.0 percent, by 6.8 percent and by 1.5 percent in December, January and February and fell by 5.9 percent in March.

Compared with April 2014, export volumes for food, beverages and tobacco, crude materials and manufactured goods fell by 9 percent, 17.7 percent and 0.9 percent, respectively while fuels volumes rose by 68.3 percent in the same month.
