- The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and leading opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) have failed to form a coalition government after coalition summit, on Aug. 13, announced Turkey's Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu.

“After the coalition summit, it was declared that the necessary ground to form a partnership to form a coalition, to form a government has not been settled yet, between the two parties. Dialogoues, efforts to form a government, on the other hand, will continue” said Davutoğlu, in a press statement at AKP headquarters.

“An election government is not a possibility with CHP. Our preferance would be a decision to declare early election by General Assembly. I would prefer an early election in the soonest time. I have three or four alternatives in my mind. Everyone should keep calm, nothing extraordinary is happining in the AKP or in Turkey. An early election is not a disaster scenario” he added.

Davutuoğlu stated that the AKP has offered to form a reform government, a short term government, regarding the dissensus between two parties particularly on education and foreing policy. However CHP leader Kılıçdaroğlu has shared their concerns for a short term coalition, and pointed at a long term coalition government, as a more positive option, according to Davutoğlu’s statement.

“An early election is a strong possibility, and even the only possibility ahead of us. Within legitimacy, the necessary steps will be taken” added Turkey’s PM, addressing opposition National Movement Party leader Devlet Bahçeli’s position regarding a potential coalition government with the AKP.

“If necessary, we will hold talks with Bahçeli too” added Davutoğlu.

AKP and CHP have been proceeding coalition talks for weeks, after the June 7 elections where the AKP failed to win the parliamentary majority and govern alonei after 13 year of governance.

After weeks of negotiation talks, the coalition meeting has ended negatively and Turkey will go to ballots for the secong time this year within an early election, said Davutoğlu.

The critical summit between AKP leader Davutoğlu and CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has dured 1.35 hours. Amid security alert across Turkey, there have been urges for a coalition government, including calls of the top business body Turkish Industry and Business Association (TÜSİAD) and NGOs, to resettle stability and peace in the country.
