Free Syrian Army Raises Flag In Tell Abyad, “As Pyd Withdraws Its Forces”

- The Democratic Union Party (PYD) has withdrawn its forces from Syria’s Tell Abyad across Turkey’s Şanlıurfa province and left the control of the border gate to the Free Syrian Army (FSA) with respect to agreement, said local sources.

The Tell Abyad town affiliated to Raqqa governorate across Şanlıurfa’s Akçakale district was subdued by the FSA after clashes with regime forces. In 2014, ISIL seized the control of the region.

However last June, armed YPG forces within PYD along with FSA members launched an attack over Tell Abyad. Thousands of Syrians flocked to Turkey for sheltering, leaving their homes. On June 15, FSA and PYD seized the district without any clashes after ISIL left.

The town has been under PYD’s control since the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant had been repulsed from the region. However after the PYD flags were raised, noticed from border’s Turkey side, sparking rumours over the attempts to replace Kurds in Tell Abyad.

After two months of control, under an agreement, PYD left Tell Abyad and the border gate’s control to FSA, said local sources. Thus, some of the Syrians started to seek going back to their countries, waiting in the Akçakale border gate, local reports added.

It was also claimed that in the border line where security measures have been boosted, the Akçakale border gate which was closed in the last 20 months could be reopened, after these changes in the power balances.
