Turkey's Annual Greenhouse Gas Emissions Rose By 20 Million Tonnes In 2013

- Turkey's overall greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as CO2 equivalent rose by 20 million tonnes in 2013 to 459.1 million tonnes, according to the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory data released by Turkstat on Monday.

In overall 2013 emissions, the energy sector had the largest portion with 67.8 percent. The energy sector was followed by the industrial processes and product use with 15.7 percent, the agricultural activities with 10.8 percent and the waste with 5.7 percent.

Total greenhouse gas emissions as CO2 equivalent per capita rose to 6.04 tonnes in 2013, up from 3.96 tonnes for the year 1990.

The highest portion of total CO2 emissions was originated from energy sector with 82.2 percent. The remaining 17.6 percent was originated from industrial processes and product use and 0.2 percent with agricultural activities and waste in 2013.

The highest portion of CH4 emissions was originated from agricultural activities with 46.5 percent while 36.7 percent was from waste and 16.8 percent was from energy and industrial processes and product use.

While 79.4 percent of N2O emission was from agricultural activities, 8.4 percent of that was from energy, 7.9 percent was from waste and 4.3 percent was from industrial processes and product use.
