On the other hand, 28.9 percent of households with one adult with at least one dependent child lived below the relative poverty threshold calculated in 2013, said in the Turkstat statement on the Statistics on Family data.

Dependent child is defined as a child who is under the age of 25, economically inactive and living with at least one parent.

The poverty rate of households having dependent children at 27.2 percent was 3.5 times higher than that of households having no dependent children at 7.7 percent.

The poverty rate of households with two adults and three or more dependent children was at 49.6 percent in 2013, while the poverty rate of people aged 65 years or over living alone rose to 17.9 percent in 2013, up from 15.1 percent in 2009.

As the proportion of poverty of males at this household type and age group was 9.1 percent, this rate was 13.0 percent for females.
